Arsenal" "World Class" Star Will Leave North London

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho "is leaving" north London this summer as Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri dreams of signing him, according to reports out of Italy.

Who could leave Arsenal this summer?

As well as managing who could come into the club, with West Ham star Declan Rice and Galatasary's Sacha Boey being heavily linked recently, Mikel Arteta's side must also shift the deadwood.

Having missed out on their first Premier League title in nearly 20 years to Man City, it's back to the drawing board for club chief Edu, who has already confirmed that transfer planning is well and truly underway.

"Our planning has already been done," said Edu back in April (ESPN via 90min)."It has already reached the owners. Now, we're taking things step by step. We're focused on how we will finish the season, but we've put in the planning and I'm very excited."

Of the players who could leave to make room for new signings, there are a fair few, with the standout names being defender Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe, Nuno Tavares, Sambi Lokonga, Folarin Balogun and, of course long-serving star Granit Xhaka (Goal).

However, a report from Italy suggests another name has been added to that long list, as Jorginho is being tipped to leave just six months after putting pen to paper on a move from Chelsea.

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Italy international "is leaving Arsenal" this summer window, and Lazio are thought to be very interested in signing him.

The midfielder, who was brought in last winter as midfield cover, is seriously wanted by his former manager at Chelsea and Napoli.

Sarri apparently "dreams" of signing Jorginho and it is believed there is a real chance the pair could work together at, what would be, their third club.

Who is Jorginho?

The 31-year-old has proven to be a phenomenal player in recent seasons, even winning the UEFA Player of the Year award in 2021 as he helped Chelsea to Champions League glory.

Called "world class" by former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique, Arteta has also praised Jorginho's efforts since making the move to north London.

Speaking after a win over Aston Villa in mid-February, the Gunners boss called him "tremendous" whilst hailing some real magic he produced.

"I certainly didn't expect that from him (Jorginho). I thought he was tremendous today," said Arteta.

We needed a magic moment and Jorginho produced it, the boys really wanted it, after what happened a couple of days ago.

"If you want to be at the top you have to win games in different ways."

Aston Villa Are Leading Contenders To Buy £63k p/w Ace

Aston Villa are among the frontrunners to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres this summer as Unai Emery eyes defensive reinforcements, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

What's the latest transfer news involving Pau Torres?

As per Football Insider, Aston Villa are 'plotting' a move for Villarreal star Torres this summer, which has prompted his current employers to try and extend his €73,077 (£63,352) contract at Estadi de la Ceramica that runs until 2024.

The report states that Emery is a big fan of the 26-year-old, who could leave the Yellow Submarine in the off-season amid interest from several Premier League sides.

According to The Mirror print edition (Page 48, May 10th) via The Chelsea Chronicle, Chelsea are also keen on the Spaniard and Argentinian boss Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be a big admirer of his talents.

FootballTransfers have revealed that Torres has a release clause worth €50 million (£43.5 million) and Serie A giants Juventus are also hot on his tail in their hunt for a new defender.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Galetti has said that Aston Villa are in a 'privileged situation' in their pursuit of Torres due to manager Emery having previously worked with the central defender at Villarreal.

Galetti said: "We can still say that Aston Villa are leading the race for Pau Torres. This is also primarily because the former coach of Pau at Villarreal being at Aston Villa seems to put the Villans in a privileged position. The situation of competitors for Pau is still quite complicated.”

How has Pau Torres got on for Villarreal this term?

Torres, who has been hailed as an "extraordinary" player, has performed in typically solid fashion for Villarreal this season, helping his side to a fifth-place finish in La Liga heading into their last fixture against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

In 2022/23, Torres has appeared 37 times in all competitions for his side, registering one goal in the process against Sevilla in April, as per Transfermarkt.

pau-torres-villarreal-premier-league-liverpool-transfers

In La Liga, the 26-year-old has been defensively sound, managing to complete an average of 4.2 clearances and win 1.7 aerial duels per match, according to WhoScored.

Over the past 365 days, Torres has excelled in comparison to his positional peers in Europe's top five divisions regarding the art of progressive carries, successfully completing 2.25 per 90 minutes, putting him in the first percentile for this metric, as per FBRef.

Aston Villa's interest in his services isn't a surprising development; however, they will need to fend off competition from some top clubs around Europe to bring the dominant central defender to Villa Park this summer.

Mitchell reaches hundred on rain-wrecked day

ScorecardDaryl Mitchell brought up his hundred on a rain-wrecked day•Getty Images

Worcestershire captain Daryl Mitchell scored his first Specsavers County Championship hundred for 13 months on a drastically curtailed third day against Northamptonshire at New Road. The 32-year-old, who is in his benefit year with the County, went to his century off 164 balls with 16 boundaries to end a lean run of form. He now needs only another 28 runs to complete 10,000 runs in his career in first-class cricket. However, only 17.2 overs were possible in the day as Worcestershire added 42 runs for the loss of two wickets in reaching 195 for 3 – still 356 in arrears. With leaders Essex winning against Leicestershire at Grace Road, Worcestershire have to win to retain their slim hopes of promotion although it remains to be seen whether the two sides will collude tomorrow to try and force a positive result.Worcestershire resumed on 153 for 1 from 40 overs but added only seven more runs before Ben Sanderson accounted for Tom Fell (66) who was caught behind. His stand with Mitchell had been worth 152 in 42 overs.Mitchell, who had been on 86 overnight, reached three figures with an edge for four through the slips off Sanderson. It was his first three-figure score since a double hundred against Hampshire at New Road in July 2015.Play was halted after 12.3 overs and there was then a four-hour delay before the players returned for two brief interludes. In the first of those Joe Clarke (6) played a loose shot at yesterday’s debutant century-maker Chad Barrett and was caught by Ben Duckett at first slip. When umpires Steve Gale and Graham Lloyd called off play for the day at 5.35pm, Mitchell was unbeaten on 102.

Burnley Could Replace Cork With Swoop For 21 y/o Target

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany could be a busy man over the next few months as the Belgian attempts to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League.

The head coach led the club to glory in the Championship, winning the title with 101 points, and could look to the summer transfer window to improve his team.

Foot Mercato recently reported that the Clarets are seriously considering a swoop to sign Bristol City defensive midfielder Han-Noah Massengo, who has been on loan at Auxerre this season.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at Ashton Gate this summer after joining them from Monaco for €8m (£6.9m) in 2019 and is set to be available as a free agent, which could make him a bargain signing for Kompany.

How has Han-Noah Massengo performed this season?

He joined Ligue 1 side Auxerre on loan for the second half of the 2022/23 campaign and enjoyed a strong five months of action in his home country.

The talented France U21 youngster, who was once dubbed a "roaming playmaker" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has showcased his defensive instincts in the middle of the park and his ability as a holding midfielder could make him the perfect heir to 33-year-old Burnley ace Jack Cork.

Burnley midfielder Jack Cork.

Massengo averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.85 across 13 appearances in Ligue 1, where he also made 3.3 tackles and interceptions per game, which shows that the French enforcer is able to win the ball back for his side on a regular basis.

Cork, on the other hand, averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.77 across his 39 outings, where he made 2.5 tackles and interceptions per league match for the Clarets.

The former Monaco man has also won 53% of his duels in comparison to the Englishman's 51% and this means that the youngster has made more defensive interventions per appearance whilst also being more efficient in his attempted challenges.

Both players have a pass completion rate between 86 and 87% and have the quality to be reliable in possession to go along with their excellent defending in front of the back line.

Massengo is also 12 years younger than Cork and this means that the ace has plenty of years left ahead of him to grow and develop and could do just that under Kompany's coaching at Turf Moor.

Therefore, the soon-to-be free agent could be the dream long-term heir to the veteran defensive midfielder and could lean on the Englishman's experience to help him improve before eventually taking over in that position in the team.
