O Tribunal decidiu ainda fazer duas auditorias governamentais extraordinárias.

West Brom: Kyle Edwards exit could secure Baggies compensation

Former West Brom winger Kyle Edwards has opened talks over a move to Celtic, which could in turn see the Baggies receive a compensation package after his deal expired [Football Insider].

The Lowdown: Baggies gear up for 2021/22 as incomings and outgoings expected

Looking ahead to 2021/22, newly appointed boss Valerien Ismael will be under no illusions about the scale of incomings and outgoings at the Hawthorns this summer.

One man who will not be returning to the West Midlands is 23-year-old Edwards. Despite this, he could now be set to pitch in some funds for his former club in a surprise turn of events.

The Latest: Departee Edwards could net West Brom six-figure compensation fee

Presently speaking, Celtic have entered discussions with a view to bringing the Englishman north of the border under freedom of contract, a Hoops source told Football Insider.

Edwards left the Baggies following a 17 year association with the club at the end of last month, as he was not named on their 2021/22 retained list due to not agreeing an extension with the Sky Bet Championship outfit [Express and Star].

Now looking to the next step in his career, his next move will not be a free transfer due to his lengthy spell in the West Bromwich Albion academy. Owing to lenient cross-border rules, Scottish giants Celtic would have to pay around £300,000 for his services [Football Insider].

The Verdict: Parting ways is the right decision for both player and club

All things considered, the decision for Edwards and West Brom to part ways is probably the right one for both parties.

Though the Dudley-born wide man is a talented asset who is capable of beating a man, he has struggled for game-time in previous seasons. In 2020/21, he made just seven first-team appearances, recording two assists [Transfermarkt].

Across his time with the Baggies, he has made a decent impact though, recording nine goal contributions within 49 outings; four goals and five assists [Transfermarkt], but a switch to pastures new may give Edwards the correct platform to excel as a footballer.

From the Hawthorns point of view, receiving a £300,000 boost to their transfer kitty for a player who was surplus to requirements and out of contract is a handy boost as well – this feels like a win win.

In other news, West Brom have been linked with a free agent striker.

Hussain admits: We underestimated Sri Lanka

England captain Nasser Hussain admitted that everyone had underestimated Sri Lanka and that there was a lot of hard work ahead of his team for the rest of the Test series

Saadi Thawfeeq22-May-2002England captain Nasser Hussain admitted that everyone had underestimated Sri Lanka and that there was a lot of hard work ahead of his team for the rest of the Test series.”This game has just shown how much of hardwork we’ve got ahead of us, especially against this opposition. I think everyone’s underestimated them and they keep notching up 500s. That goes to show just how much of hard work we’ve got a head of us,” said Hussain at a press conference held at the end of the first cricket Test which ended in a draw at Lord’s here yesterday.Sri Lanka scored 555 for 8 declared and 42 for one wicket. England replied with 275 and 529 for 5 declared.”On Test wickets against these batsmen you need to put six balls in the right area all the time, and we didn’t do that. It’s got nothing to do with match practice. All our bowlers bowled more than the Sri Lankan bowlers had. One thing they didn’t do not due to lack of practice or not being ready is, they didn’t show the discipline that is needed. It was shown by the Sri Lankan side. They were bowling just outside off stump and we didn’t do that,” he said.”We have to work out how we are going to get 20 wickets on flat Test wickets like this. There is a difference on a flat wicket at Lord’s and a flat wicket in the subcontinent where you are going to get turn and the spinner gives you something to look forward to. Playing a spinner at Lord’s would have given you absolutely nothing in this game. The ball didn’t turn at all. In fact Aravinda (de Silva) was going past the outside edge more than the inside edge,” Hussain said. The England captain admitted that his team did not perform well on the first three days of the Test, but was very pleased the way they came back on the final two days.”We were fairly innocuous with the ball for two days and dropped some catches. To be 275 all out on a flat track against Sri Lanka without (Muttiah) Muralitharan was not good enough. We didn’t play particularly well on the first three days, whereas Sri Lanka did exceptionally. I think we showed a bit of character and a bit of fight on the last two days.Everything I asked for and the coach asked for and, the boys asked for themselves came right. There weren’t a great number of wicket-taking balls around but it was not easy at all because there were not many run scoring opportunities. It took real dedication and discipline from our batting. Batting with discipline on these wickets is what is all about. There was talk of pride and the players put it right,” said Hussain. Although he was pleased with England’s second innings performance Hussain said it didn’t mean that his side went to Edgbaston for the second Test starting on May 30 holding the upperhand.Hussain’s counterpart Sanath Jayasuriya said that he was happy with the overall performance of his team.”Everything went as we planned although we could not get England out a second time. If Murali was in the side it may have been different. You never know,” said Jayasuriya.”I am happy the way we played. We are going to Edgbaston with a lot of confidence. I am not surprised at our performance because all the batsmen got runs ahead of the Test series. They’ve been in good form. The only problem we had was with our bowlers who did not have much bowling practice,” he said.Jayasuriya said that he was not disappointed that Sri Lanka’s winning sequence of nine wins in a row had ended. “As long as we are doing well that is what matters,” he said. When questioned whether he was overcautious not attacking the English batsmen on the final day, Jayasuriya replied: “We had a plan not to give too many runs to England and we played according to that plan. I would have been happy if we could have won, but I don’t mind a draw”. Jayasuriya described the Lord’s pitch as the one of the best wickets he had played on. “You can keep going on and on. It is the best wicket we had got on the tour,” he said.He said he didn’t open in the Sri Lanka second innings because he had damaged ligaments in his hand, which he hurt while fielding and did not want to take a risk. He said the he would be fit for the second Test starting in nine days time.Jayasuriya said that Muralitharan would not play in the 4-day game against Glamorgan starting at Cardiff on Thursday because he is currently undergoing physiotherapy for his injured left arm. However he said that fast bowler Dilhara Fernando who has recoveredfrom a stress fracture injury in his back would play.

Rain and bad light holds up an odd day at Bath

It was an odd day at the Bath Recreation Ground as in-between stoppages for rain and bad light, the game progressed, but not in a way that many of the patient crowd had expected.

Victor Isaacs14-Jun-2002It was an odd day at the Bath Recreation Ground as in-between stoppages for rain and bad light, the game progressed, but not in a way that many of the patient crowd had expected.Somerset soon lost their overnight savour Ian Blackwell when he fell to a sucker punch, being caught by Udal at backward point off Mascarenhas. He had played exactly the same shot the ball before which went for four.Robert Turner and Keith Dutch shared a 41-run partnership at two runs per over to show some signs of recovery but when three wickets fell in quick succession, either side of a length rain break shortly after the lunch interval, Somerset captain surprised everyone at the ground, including the Hampshire fielders by declaring, 91 runs behind. The crowd were so surprised, that some of them even booed the umpires, as they thought they had been brought off for bad light! On a wicket that had been playing tricks from the first day, with overcast conditions, some thought that the boldness of the declaration was sheer folly. However, the home side took four Hampshire wickets for just three runs, before bad light curtailed play for the day.Derek Kenway was first to go when he attempted to hook Richard Johnson’s first ball into the Bath Rugby Club, but was well caught on the boundary edge. White edged Johnson to keeper Turner and when Kendall and Laney fell off successive Matthew Bulbeck deliveries, Nic Pothas survived the hat-trick ball.Hampshire finished the day, however, still in a good position, 94 runs ahead with six wicket in hand, but will be looking for a least another 100 runs which on that Bath wicket could be enough to secure a much-needed victory.

Everton transfer update on Richarlison

Lots of Everton fans have been giving their thoughts on Twitter as a transfer update emerged on Richarlison.

As per ESPN journalist Joao Castelo-Branco, Carlo Ancelotti has asked to sign the Brazil international for Real Madrid in the summer window, with him firmly on their radar.

Richarlison did not have his best season in 2020/21, scoring just seven goals in the Premier League, and was often criticised by some members of the Goodison Park faithful for his performances.

However, he has been a key player for the Toffees over the years, scoring 42 times and supplying a further 10 assists in 119 games in all competitions across the last three campaigns (Transfermarkt).

Therefore, Rafa Benitez’s side should only consider selling the 24-year-old if a big offer came in which would be hard to turn down.

These Toffees supporters seemed split as the transfer update was shared across Twitter, with one fan describing it as ‘amazing news’ that Ancelotti wants a swift reunion with the Brazil international:

ECB seeks explanation for low Headingley turn-out

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have written to Yorkshire asking the club to explain the low attendance at the NatWest Series one-day international between England and Sri Lanka at Headingley on Tuesday.

CricInfo Staff04-Jul-2002The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have written to Yorkshire asking the club to explain the low attendance at the NatWest Series one-day international between England and Sri Lanka at Headingley on Tuesday.Although the ground has a capacity of 15,000, only around 9,000 spectators were present as England won the rain-affected but highly entertaining match by three wickets in the final over. The ECB’s director of corporate affairs John Read told The Guardian newspaper: “We’re very disappointed by the crowd in Leeds. Tim Lamb [the chief executive] wrote to Yorkshire [on Wednesday] seeking a full explanation.”The reasons for it will be fully discussed by the ECB’s management board. It is important to us that all our venues sell out or get as close to that position as possible.”Apart from the revenue aspect, the players prefer to play in front of fullhouses – and a big crowd makes for a much better spectator experience.”Overall the NatWest series has been a great success. We budgeted for takingsof £4 million and we’re heading for a figure of £4.2m, with a total attendance of about 180,000.”In nine of the matches we have had a sell-out or a virtual sell-out. And that includes those games coming up at Edgbaston and Bristol between India and Sri Lanka.”In view of the fact that we’ve been crowded out by the World Cup and, morerecently, by Wimbledon to a certain extent, and bearing in mind that the weatherhas been frankly awful, it has been a very good effort.”The Headingley crowd looks like a one-off, an aberration. And we want tomake sure we find the reasons why.”
