Midfielders Hatate and Ideguchi have penned four-and-a-half-year contracts, whereas forward Maeda has joined on loan with a transfer becoming permanent in the summer.

The Hoops now seem to be turning their attention to offloading players and looking to sign loanees Cameron Carter-Vickers on a full-time basis, with Celtic back in action in ten days time.

The Latest: Agbonlahor’s comments

Agbonlahor, who regularly features on talkSPORT, was talking to Football Insider regarding the New Year’s Eve moves for the Japanese trio.

Here’s what he had to say in reply, labelling the moves as ‘amazing business’.

“You’ve got time with the winter break to see what they can do.

“Get them working together, get them used to their new teammates.

“I’m sure they’re very, very good players and it could turn out to be amazing business for Celtic.

“They’ve now got a group of people who can help each other. They are from the same country so that’s going to help them settle in more.

“It’s looking positive for Celtic.”

The Verdict: Shrewd signings

The Hoops have already reaped the rewards from the J1 League market with Kyogo Furuhahsi’s £4.86m move in the summer, and it seems as if Hatate, Ideguchi and Maeda could cost less all combined. [Transfermarkt]

Hatate is a versatile midfielder who helped his previous employers win back-to-back titles, Ideguchi has been back playing regularly following a troubled spell with Leeds United, while Maeda has just come off the best goalscoring year of his career.

So, overall, Celtic appear to have got themselves three bargains, and there could well be more additions to come before the end of the month, with a move for teenage talent Johnny Kenny expected to be wrapped up imminently.

A team performance with both bat and ball was behind Ireland’s victory, as no batsman made more than 19 and the wickets were shared around by the bowlers.Despite their defeats to USA and Afghanistan, Scotland still had an outside chance of sneaking through to the next stage of the tournament coming in to this game. Had they won today, they would have drawn level on two points with Ireland and USA. With Ireland scoring 136 for 7, Scotland had to chase down the runs in 14.5 overs or less in order to overtake Ireland’s net run rate.Their innings lay in tatters within the first two overs, however, as Peter Connell and Trent Johnston ripped through the top order to reduce Scotland to 6 for 4. After Connell got rid of Fraser Watts and Gavin Hamilton in consecutive balls, Andre Botha held onto two chances at a well-positioned short third man off Johnston as Richie Berrington and Neil McCallum slashed wildly at deliveries outside off stump. Two overs later Jan Stander mistimed an attempted heave over midwicket and Scotland had collapsed to 12 for 5.Then came the fightback, as Coetzer and Drummond saw off the opening bowlers and began to accumulate runs steadily. With a win in under 15 overs firmly out of the question after the top order crumbled, the pair had only pride to play for, and their partnership was just beginning to look ominous when Coetzer popped a low full toss to a backtracking William Porterfield at cover to depart for 43.Simon Smith’s run out in the 17th over broke Scotland’s resistance. West Ham United are not interested in a deal to bring Adama Traore to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by ExWHUemployee, with the club insider revealing in a post on The West Ham Way that he does not believe David Moyes will be making a move for the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger this month, despite recent reports to the contrary.

In his post, Ex said: “I don’t believe there is any serious interest in Traore at this point for that price. In the past, the club have held an interest in the player, but I don’t believe he is a name that Moyes has mentioned recently and he is also out of favour at Wolves after an unproductive season, so I doubt the club would wish to risk £20m and high wages on an out of form player. Should a loan deal be available this may change things but, at this point, I do not believe he is a target.”

Fans will be buzzing

While it is abundantly clear that, should Moyes wish to give his side the best possible chance of securing a top-four finish this season, West Ham simply must bring in attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window, whether or not the signing of Traore would have been a good move by the Hammers is very much up for debate.

Indeed, while the £25.2m-rated man has returned some impressive metrics over his 18 Premier League appearances so far this season, taking an average of 1.2 shots, making 1.1 key passes, completing a league-high 4.5 dribbles and winning a whopping 7.1 duels per game, the fact remains that the Spain international has failed to score a single goal or register an assist in the current campaign.

This would appear to be the primary reason as to why many of the London Stadium faithful took to Twitter to state their bewilderment at their club’s link with a move for the 25-year-old – with a great deal suggesting that, while a backup to Michail Antonio is very much needed, the £20m signing of a player who is yet to contribute to a single goal this season is simply not the answer.

As such, it is clear to see that ExWHUemployee’s latest update will have left many of the Hammers fanbase buzzing, and we have to say, we can understand why.

As per the reliable broadcast giant, Tottenham have made contact with the 29-year-old’s entourage over a potential move.

“This will get Tottenham fans excited, they’ve been screaming for a creative midfielder, someone to replace Christian Eriksen, someone who can score goals, set up goals, and be really dynamic,” as said on Sky.

“Tottenham fans will like this one, potentially, Jesse Lingard is on their radar.

“Tottenham are keen to sign Lingard and they have approached his representatives over the course of this window, potentially with a view to a move in January, possibly, maybe more likely, the summer.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

Scoring nine goals and assisting four others over a very productive West Ham loan spell last year, it’s clear to see Lingard has the talent to turn it on when given the opportunity.

As well as this, Lingard could leave for as little as £15 million this month according to some reports, arguably a bargain given his quality and the fact he would also be a part of Tottenham’s homegrown quota.

On a reported £100,000-per-week, his salary is very affordable with a potential swoop for Lingard looking like a seemingly realistic transfer.

We are surprised he hasn’t actually been more heavily linked with Spurs sooner.

Cricket Australia is waiting for confirmation of Michael Clarke’s travel plans to New Zealand for the two-Test series, but he remains on track to join the team ahead of Friday’s opening game in Wellington. Clarke, the vice-captain, has announced his separation from fiancée Lara Bingle after leaving the one-day tour to sort out his personal issues.Clarke will finalise his departure with Michael Brown, Cricket Australia’s deputy, over the weekend and the most likely scenario is he will leave with the other Test specialists. “There is a group leaving Sydney for Wellington on Monday including Phillip Hughes, Steven Smith, Simon Katich and some others,” the Cricket Australia spokesman Peter Young told Cricinfo. “Michael Brown will be talking to Michael Clarke today or tomorrow to work things out.”Clarke’s personal life has been the issue of the week in Australia and his management group asked for privacy when revealing the break-up. Cricket Australia have been supportive in giving Clarke time off and Ricky Ponting did not want his deputy to return to the squad until the situation had been sorted out.”He is keen to rejoin the Test side, it’s just a matter of working out when that will be,” Young said.
