The visitors’ hopes of launching their victory bid on a sound footing were soon dashed.Richard Coughtrie departed without a run on the board, caught in the slips byRyan ten Doeschate off the bowling of Maurice Chambers, and David Masters snaredtwo more wickets before the 50 was raised.Kane Williamson was caught behind by James Foster for 19 and then Tom Westley’ssafe pair of hands at second slip accounted for opener Chris Dent (16).

O volante Renê Júnior e o atacante Clayson têm surpreendido o departamento médico do Corinthians.

Mumbai allowed to field five overseas players

Mumbai Indians have been permitted to field five overseas players in their team during their Champions League Twenty20 games

Mumbai Indians have been permitted to field five overseas players in a team during their Champions League Twenty20 games because several of their Indian players have suffered tournament-ending injuries. However, all the overseas players must have been contracted by them to play in the 2011 IPL. Mumbai are without six of their first-choice players, including the captain Sachin Tendulkar, and their reinforced squad contains seven Indians and seven foreign players. The other IPL teams will be permitted to field only four overseas players in their XIs during the CLT20.Apart from Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Munaf Patel, Ali Murtaza, Dhawal Kulkarni and Suryakumar Yadav were ruled out of the tournament. They were replaced by Andrew Symonds, Dilhara Fernando, R Sathish, Sarul Kanwar and Abu Nechim. Moises Henriques is contracted to Mumbai, but cannot be considered for selection since he is a part of the New South Wales squad for the tournament. Tendulkar (injured toe), Rohit (broken finger) and Munaf (twisted ankle) were injured during India’s recent tour of England. In the absence of regular captain Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh will lead the team. The CLT20 technical committee said, in addition to those six players, it had also received medical reports that ruled out two more Mumbai players – Aditya Tare and Pawan Suyal – from the tournament. Therefore, in all, a total of eight out of Mumbai’s 23 contracted players were unavailable for selection.”In the current circumstances, if the Mumbai Indians suffer one more injury to an Indian player, they will be unable to field a team due to CLT20 rules restricting teams to a maximum of four overseas players in any one match,” the tournament organisers said in a media release. “As a result, the CLT20 governing council has approved a recommendation by the technical committee that to ensure the integrity of the tournament the Mumbai Indians will be permitted to select up to five overseas players in any one team, provided those players were contracted to play in the 2011 IPL.”This was considered the most appropriate solution to respect player safety and ensure no player plays for a CLT20 team unless he played for, or was contracted to play for, that team in the qualifying event.””Subject to approval, the ruling of the Governing Council and Technical Committee is applicable to any other team that, like the Mumbai Indians, suffers tournament-ending injuries in significant numbers that compromises its participation in the event.”The current Mumbai Indians squad consists of 14 players, however they may add another player to their squad from their remaining injury-free contract list if they choose.”The CLT20 governing council comprises BCCI president N Srinivasan, former IPL chairman Chirayu Amin, BCCI vice-president Niranjan Shah, Cricket South Africa chief Gerald Majola, Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland and a CA official Dean Kino.Mumbai squad: Harbhajan Singh (capt), Lasith Malinga (overseas), Andrew Symonds (overseas), James Franklin (overseas), Aiden Blizzard (overseas), Davy Jacobs (overseas), Kieron Pollard (overseas), Dilhara Fernado (overseas), R Satish, Ambati Rayudu, T Suman, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sarul Kanwar, Abu Nechim.

The debutant batsman Peter Handscomb showed impressive composure to keep Victoria steady on the second day at the Gabba, where they chipped away at Queensland’s first innings of 355. But despite Handscomb’s half-century, the Bushrangers faced a tough challenge to take first-innings points, still trailing by 143 runs at the close of play, with only the bowlers still to bat.The last two recognised batsmen were at the crease, Alex Keath on 16 and Ryan Carters on 4, as Victoria reached 5 for 212 at stumps. They had lost Handscomb for 71 late in the day when he edged Ben Cutting to slip, to give Cutting a well-deserved second wicket, as he finished the day with figures of 2 for 37 from 20 overs.Batting at No.3, Handscomb had stayed at the crease for four and a half hours and put on a valuable 90-run stand for the second wicket with Chris Rogers, who eventually lobbed a return catch to the legspinner Cameron Boyce for 72. Scott Walter picked up two wickets, including Victoria’s captain Andrew McDonald for 33, after he finished unbeaten on 14 in Queensland’s innings earlier in the day.The Bulls resumed at 6 for 306 and added 49 to their overnight total, with Peter Siddle collecting two wickets on the second morning. Darren Pattinson finished with 3 for 75.

NZC reports financial surplus for 2010-11

New Zealand Cricket has reported a financial surplus of NZ $2.60 million in its annual report for 2010-11

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has reported a financial surplus of NZ $2.60 million in its annual report for 2010-11, though the outgoing chief executive Justin Vaughan said it was “lower than what was anticipated”.”In a year including an ICC World Cup, NZC expects to do well financially and it is heartening to see a good surplus posted, although it is lower than what was anticipated,” Vaughan said. “The sharply increasing US dollar continues to be challenging and revenue from the professional game was lower than usual with just the solitary home series against Pakistan last season.”The year was the first in a new financial cycle after the eight-year partnership agreement between NZC, the New Zealand Cricket Players Association and six major associations. Revenues for the year were $44.64 million, compared with revenues for the previous year of $42.57 million. Expenditure, excluding grants to associations, was $27.7 million compared to the previous year of $32.9 million.”The adverse impact was partly offset by a significant reduction in New Zealand Cricket’s operational costs and we are grateful for the support of the ICC with their donation following the Christchurch earthquakes,” Vaughan said. “Playing numbers increased 3%, with over 107,000 participants registered, and the strength of the game was also highlighted by the re-signing of our long-term commercial partner The National Bank.”NZC also reappointed its president Denis Currie and named two new directors, Don Mackinnon and Therese Walsh to the board. Currie was elected President in 2009 and will serve his final one-year term. The two new director positions were created by the retirement of Anne Urlwin and Stephen Boock, who were both unavailable to continue. Both of them had served on the NZC board since 2002.Walsh is currently working as the chief operating officer for Rugby NZ 2011 Ltd, the company established by the New Zealand Rugby Union and New Zealand Government to deliver the Rugby World Cup. MacKinnon is a partner at specialist employment and human relations law firm Swarbrick Beck MacKinnon where he has represented and advised a number of sporting organisations including Emirates Team New Zealand (sailing).
