Derby County have been dealt a huge blow involving one of their senior players, and Paul Warne has delivered a further update surrounding the setback at Pride Park.
What's the latest news at Derby?
In League One so far this season, Warne’s side have won three and lost three of their opening six fixtures, so it’s been a mixed start to the new campaign, where having taken nine points out of a possible 18, they find themselves sat 11th in the table.
Whilst the summer transfer window has now closed, the Rams boss has hinted that he could enter the market to bolster his ranks with free agents due to Liam Thompson, Max Bird, Kane Wilson and Joe Ward being sidelined through injury, and another one of his stars who is now set to also be out of action is Jake Rooney.
During Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers, the centre-back was forced off the pitch after just 14 minutes with what appeared to be a serious problem, and having since had a scan to discover the extent of his issue, it sounds like he won’t be staging his comeback anytime soon.
How long is Jake Rooney out for?
According to Derby's official website, Rooney has sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage to his right knee, and Warne has publicly addressed supporters regarding his situation. He said:
“It's heartbreaking news for Jake to suffer this injury. He had forced his way into the team in the last few games and done really well. It's tough being a young professional when you're trying to make your way in the game and to have this sort of injury is hugely disappointing.
"We are gutted for him, but he’s got our full support and we’ll do everything we can to help him get back in the best possible condition.”
Derby County defender Jake Rooney.
How good is Jake Rooney?
Despite only joining the club last summer from Burnley, Rooney has already made 21 senior appearances for Derby and has become a regular feature of the senior squad, so considering the positive impact he’s had, this news will of course be a blow to Warne.
The rising star, who pockets £760-per-week, was averaging 3.3 clearances and 2.7 tackles per third tier game prior to his absence, via WhoScored, highlighting his desire to get stuck in and showing the rock he was at the heart of the boss’ backline.
Furthermore, the 20-year-old is extremely calm and composed on the ball having recorded a 78.5% pass success rate which is the fourth-highest throughout the whole of the team, though this is yet another attribute that the manager will have to cope without for a large remainder of the season.
Rooney has been dubbed a "class act" by Rams reporter Leigh Curtis given the talent he has at such a young age, and whilst this injury will be a major setback in his development, here's hoping that he will return stronger to become an integral player for the long-term future of the club.
West Bromwich Albion have registered their interest over a loan deal to sign Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden, but a reliable journalist has confirmed that they aren’t the only club in the running to secure his signature.
How much does Isaac Hayden earn?
At St. James’ Park, Hayden currently pockets £22k-per-week but spent last season out on loan at Norwich City, but that could all change should he put pen to paper on a contract at The Hawthorns.
According to Football Insider, Carlos Corberan’s side, Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers and Millwall are all interested in a swoop for the defensive midfielder in the Championship, who will be allowed to leave on a temporary basis once again having been forced to train away from the first team in the northeast, as per the same outlet.
England’s former youth international was extremely close to joining Luton Town last month having even travelled to undergo a medical, but with that switch falling through at the last minute, he’s now assessing what other options he has on the table before the transfer window closes tonight.
The 28-year-old still has another three years to run on his deal, but it’s obvious that he’s only likely to receive regular game time should he complete a move elsewhere, and with the first official move having been made, there’s a chance he could be on his way to the Midlands.
Are West Brom signing Isaac Hayden?
Taking to X, Darren Witcoop revealed that West Brom have made contact with Newcastle to discuss the possibility of a loan for Hayden, but admitted that they are set to face stiff competition from Sheffield Wednesday. He wrote:
“West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday among the Championship clubs to have asked Newcastle about taking midfielder Isaac Hayden on loan. Hayden saw a move to Luton collapse this week. Fellow Magpies outcast Jeff Hendrick also heading to the second-tier.”
Norwich City's former loan midfielder Isaac Hayden.
How good is Isaac Hayden?
Whilst Hayden has posted 26 goal contributions (16 assists and 10 goals) since the start of his career, he’s naturally much stronger in the defensive aspect of his game having been dubbed a midfield “enforcer” by journalist Josh Bunting.
The Chelmsford-born talent ranks in the 99th percentile for blocks and the 98th percentile for aerial wins, showing how strong he is at clearing the danger away from his own area and protecting his backline before it’s too late.
Sponsored by Puma, the central talisman also has the ability to operate in five different positions over the pitch, including three roles in the midfield, at centre-back and even right-back, so his versatility to adapt to various areas will be yet another attractive and useful attribute to Corberan.
Furthermore, Hayden shares the same agent, Unique Sports Group, as Erik Pieters and Josh Griffiths, so this existing connection that his representative already has to the club could possibly give them a small advantage should they push to try and get a deal over the line before the end of play at 11pm this evening.
Liverpool remain interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch this summer, with Jurgen Klopp believed to be a huge admirer.
How old is Ryan Gravenberch?
The Dutchman, who is still only 21 years of age despite seemingly being around for a long time, joined Bayern from Ajax last summer, in what was seen as a big piece of business by the Bundesliga champions.
Gravenberch had already made 103 appearances for Ajax, even though he is still so young, but with huge things expected of him, he found it tough in his first year in Germany.
Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…
The midfielder may have featured in 24 of Bayern's league matches, but he only started three of them, with the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka preferred in the middle of the park, among others.
Gravenberch is one of numerous players to have been linked with a move to Liverpool earlier in the summer, with the Reds potentially viewing him as someone who could make a big difference, following so many issues in that area of the pitch last season.
With Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai already coming in, and Romeo Lavia and Andre both looking like primary targets, it seems as though the Reds' interest in Gravenberch hasn't completely gone away yet.
According to the Bayern Insider podcast [via Sport Witness], Liverpool are in the best position to sign the Netherlands international when compared to other clubs, with Klopp thought to rate him highly as a player. It is believed that the Reds manager is confident that he could reach his vast potential at Anfield, coming in as an exciting long-term acquisition at the club.
Gravenberch is clearly a hugely gifted footballer, even though his spell at Bayern has been underwhelming to date, but there would have to question marks over whether he is the best option for Liverpool at this point.
The Dutch youngster can operate as a No.6, but is more at home in more of a No.8 role, using his physicality and attacking ability to showcase his box-to-box brilliance. In Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, the Reds have already sorted that area this summer, though, with defensive midfielders far more important.
For that reason, it is essential that Liverpool look to bring in at least one of Lavia or Andre before deadline day arrives – bringing in both would make more sense – in order to make up for the loss of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, with the former particularly brilliant there at his best over the years.
Nailing down someone in the No.6 position is so vital for any team – Curtis Jones has been deployed there at times in pre-season, but is far from an experienced natural in the role. Adding Gravenberch to Mac Allister and Szoboszlai could feel a bit samey, even though compatriot and former Netherlands international Kim Krief has spoken highly of him in the past, once saying he is "greatest talent" in his country, while Frank De Boer has described him as a "fantastic" footballer.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is "set for a surprise exit to Atletico Madrid" this summer, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.
Who will leave Spurs?
Former Spurs midfielder Harry Winks, who completed a switch to Championship side Leicester City earlier this transfer window, is one of the only senior players to have officially departed Spurs so far.
Lucas Moura, after seeing out his contract, also left Tottenham as a free agent – but there is still plenty of work to for manager Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy in terms of exits.
The September 1 deadline is fast approaching and Spurs are rumoured to have transfer listed the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga, Tanguy Ndombele and Hugo Lloris.
Lloris, speaking to Nice-Matin earlier in the summer, admitted this could be the end of an era at Spurs as he considers opportunities elsewhere.

“We have reached an important moment, whether it be for the club or me,” said Lloris
“It’s the end of an era. I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible. However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen."
Meanwhile, Postecoglou has admitted that his Spurs squad is too bloated, and certain members of the squad will be open to seeking other moves.
“It's fair to say our squad is too big at the moment," explained Postecoglou.
"There are guys who will want to explore opportunities elsewhere. I'm not involved in that. I think we'll see some movement out in the coming weeks.”
Hojbjerg, according to recent reports, could well be one of the players sacrificed before the window shuts as Diego Simeone's Atletico have been chasing the Dane for quite a while.
Tottenham Hotspur's Ben Davies scores their second goal with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Writing a column for Football Insider, O'Rourke has shared the latest on his potential departure. Indeed, the reporter claims Hojbjerg is "set for a surprise exit to Atletico Madrid", despite being a top performer under previous Tottenham bosses.
It's added that Postecoglou "will now search for the right replacement", but the Australian will look to seal the alternative option before green-lighting the midfielder's exit.
O'Rourke's sources also claim that Hojbjerg is likely to cost Atletico a fee in the region of £25 million.
How good is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg?
The 27-year-old was a mainstay for Spurs last season under Conte. Only star striker Harry Kane played more league minutes than Hojbjerg over 22/23, with the former Southampton star also notching nine goal contributions from midfield (WhoScored).
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg plays in the Champions League for Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16 against AC Milan.
He also ranked in their top three for average match rating per 90, standing out as one of Tottenham's best performers (WhoScored).
Called "sensational" by some members of the media, former Spurs keeper Paul Robinson heaped praise on Hojbjerg for playing some of his best football last term.
"I’ve been surprised by how much he has stepped up this year," said Robinson to Football Insider.
“I thought he was the one who would make way for Yves Bissouma. The club spent a lot of money on Bissouma. I think Hojbjerg recognised that and stepped up.
“He is playing to a level that we have never seen before. He is playing his best football in a Spurs shirt."
Australia’s captain Meg Lanning is targeting a total beyond 300 as the World Cup favourites commence their campaign against a familiar finals foe – West Indies. While Australia – then known as the Southern Stars – were victorious over the Caribbean side in the final of 2013 tournament in Mumbai, West Indies returned the favour in Kolkata last year to lift the World T20 title for the first time.Ahead of their tournament opener in the picturesque surrounds of Taunton in Somerset, Lanning eyed the county ground’s short boundaries and fast outfield and hoped for sustained aggression from her batting line-up over 50 overs.”It’d be nice to get there,” she said of 300. “The ground looks like it runs pretty quick and obviously with the square all the way across as well it picks up a bit of pace off there, so we’ll just have to assess the conditions to start off with and make sure we get a good base with the bat and then launch towards the end.”Generally the scores here in one-day county games have been very good, and the practice wickets today came onto the bat pretty well as well. There was a bit of drizzle around today which made them a bit skiddy, but we’re expecting the wicket to be pretty good for batting and plenty of runs [in it], so hopefully our batters can cash in.”The loss to West Indies last year has not been a point of major discussion among Australia’s players, but Lanning did not shy away from the fact that it had hurt her team a great deal. For that reason as much as any, it means she is not looking too closely at the slow start they have made in warm-up fixtures.”There’s no doubt that loss really hurt our group and I think we’ve improved a lot since that loss and we’re playing the 50-over format rather than T20, so we’re confident going in,” Lanning said. “We feel like our preparation has been really good and hopefully, come [match day], we’re ready to execute really well.”We’re not reading too much into the warm-up results, we’re expecting a very good West Indies side to come out and we’re expecting them to play at their best. We’re looking forward to the challenge, we really enjoy playing against them and they’re usually very good games. So we know we need to play really well to beat them and hopefully we can come out and start off well.”It has been a long time coming, the preparation has been long but it has been great and we feel like we’ve had enough time to get used to the conditions in the UK. Now everyone else is playing, we’re just itching to get out there and get started.”Australia’s XI remains a matter for conjecture, with the likes of Rachael Haynes pushing for inclusion in the top six and a trio of spin options also in the mix.

West Indies women’s squad for the World Cup, which will be played in England in June-July, features four new faces, including 16-year-old fast bowler Qiana Joseph. The three other newcomers include 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Reniece Boyce, 23-year-old allrounder Akeira Peters and 25-year-old opening batsman Felicia Walters.Chairman of the selection panel Courtney Browne said these four players caught the eye at the emerging women’s players camp held last year. “The team is composed of a mixture of youth and experience,” Browne said. “Performances in this year’s Women’s Regional Super50 Tournament along with the form of incumbent players over the last few international tours were taken into consideration.”The panel felt all four [new] players bring a specific skill-set to the team. It should also be noted that all four players are products of our last training camp for emerging women’s players held last year. We feel at this time that these players, although not as experienced, have shown improvement and can add value to our squad.”Allrounder Shanel Daley, who last played in November 2014, returned to the squad. Browne said of her selection: “Shanel’s ability as a player has never been in question. She however, had some injury issues over the last few years. Those issues are now under control and our medical personnel, as well as Oba Gulston, the physiotherapist for the women’s team, will continue to monitor and manage her.”Allrounder Shaquana Quintyne missed out with injury. The Women’s World Cup runs from June 24 to July 23. West Indies play their first match on June 26, against Australia in Taunton. They are one of eight teams in the tournament, alongside Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are not willing to match the £25m price-tag set by Bristol City for young midfield star Alex Scott, according to Dean Jones.
Scott has been linked with a move this summer after impressing for the Robins in the Championship last season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer news – Alex Scott
Several Premier League clubs have entered the chase to sign Scott this summer, according to TalkSPORT, with Wolves among those.
The Midlands club reportedly face competition from West Ham United and Bournemouth for the teenager's signature this summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool previously sent scouts to watch the midfielder, before cooling their interest.
As the summer goes on, it looks like Scott will have a big decision to make regarding his future.
What has Dean Jones said about Alex Scott and Wolverhampton Wanderers?
Speaking to Football FanCast, when asked about Scott and Wolves, Jones said: "Scott’s an interesting one. Bristol City value him at around £25m at the moment.
"That’s been quite off-putting for a lot of teams, it’s not just Wolves that aren’t willing to get to that make, so I think as the window goes further in, we might find that price-tag comes down a little."
How did Alex Scott perform in the Championship last season?Reports over a potential Premier League move for Scott come as no surprise after the Bristol City youngster picked up the Championship's Young Player of the Year award.
Many were quick to praise the 19-year-old throughout the season, with Robins manager Nigel Pearson saying, via Bristol World: "He’s just a very unique talent and he’s got a very impressive temperament.
Julen Lopetegui
“I think he’s destined for the very top, but football dictates to you what’s going to happen because you can’t always be in control of your own destiny.
"Alex Scott will, I think, continue to progress and he’ll be a top player. But he also knows that he’s got to do it for us while he’s here, he just enjoys playing football so it's good to have young hungry players at the club as well as senior players who want to continue to perform and get better.”
In total, the man in demand was involved in seven goals from midfield in the Championship last season, as well as particularly impressing through his progressive dribbling ability, making 2.34 progressive carries per 90, as per FBref.
Wherever he ends up this summer, there is no doubt that Scott has all the tools to become a top talent.

Ashok Dinda took two wickets in the 19th over to help Bengal defend 152•BCCI
Tripura needed 11 runs to win off the final 12 balls of their match but Bengal’s Ashok Dinda and Sayan Ghosh denied them to pull off a come-from-behind victory at Eden Gardens. Chasing 153, Tripura seemed quite comfortable at 142 for 4 in the 18th over. That’s when their captain Manisankar Murasingh fell for 27 off 8 balls. Dinda then came on and ripped out two wickets in four balls, including the set batsman Smit Patel for 41 off 33. And Ghosh finished the job, keeping the opposition to 147 for 8.Bengal’s total of 152 was built around a 61-run partnership between captain Manoj Tiwary and Pankaj Shaw. The two batsmen helped the score recuperate from 49 for 4 in the ninth over, and with Debabrata Das smacking 23 off 11 balls at the end, it reached proportions just large enough to be defended.File photo – Ishank Jaggi’s 47 at the top of the order was in vain•Sunny Shinde
Anurag Sarangi’s 48-ball 58, and a cameo from Abhishek Yadav, who struck an unbeaten 26 off nine deliveries, helped Odisha chase down a target of 150 with three wickets to spare against Jharkhand in Kolkata. Odisha were in a promising position at 79 for 1 in the 13th over before they slumped to 119 for 5 by the 18th over. With only four balls left in the game, they were 139 for 7 before Yadav pulled the side out of trouble. He struck two fours and as many sixes, helping Odisha reach the target with a ball to spare. Earlier, opener Ishank Jaggi (47) and Kumar Deobrat (44 not out) helped Jharkhand recover from 27 for 2 to 149 for 5 after being put in to bat. Odisha’s bowlers, however, were also profligate, contributing 20 extras to Jharkhand’s total.
