Nessas ele perde o grupo, pega o avião e vai embora – disse Ronaldo.

Emilio Gay wraps up run-chase after White, Sanderson run riot with new ball

Northamptonshire 183 for 2 (Gay 84*) beat Derbyshire 177 for 9 (Hudson-Prentice 64, White 4-20, Sanderson 3-29) by eight wicketsEmilio Gay’s unbeaten 84 led Northamptonshire to an eight-wicket victory over Derbyshire, securing their first win of the Royal London Cup campaign. The academy graduate saw the hosts over the line with three balls to spare in their chase for 178 for victory in a game reduced to 28 overs-a-side by morning rain. The left-hander’s heroics came after the Steelbacks’ new-ball pairing of Curtley-Jack White and Ben Sanderson had taken 4 for 20 and 3 for 29 respectively, reducing Derbyshire to 8 for 4 before Fynn Hudson-Prentice’s swashbuckling 64 gave the still winless visitors something to defend.Derbyshire’s batting woes this season have been well documented, and they were in trouble from the very first ball when White’s lbw appeal against Mitch Wagstaff was upheld.Sanderson’s first over brought greater carnage. Harry Came tried to hit the Steelbacks’ seamer over the top, only for Rob Keogh to pull off a stunning catch running back from mid-off.The next ball ripped out Tom Wood’s off-stump and although Alex Hughes survived the hat-trick, it was three in four for Sanderson when the Derbyshire skipper gloved one banged in short through to wicketkeeper Vasconcelos. The visitors were in disarray, but Hudson-Prentice led a thrilling counter offensive, hooking Wayne Parnell for a huge six.The all-rounder took three fours in an over from Freddie Heldreich and when the in-form Tom Taylor came on to try and halt the onslaught he too was hit for six over mid-on before Hudson-Prentice smote three fours back over the bowler’s head. His 50 came off 37 balls before he took one swing too many at Graeme White and lost his off-stump, ending a fifth wicket stand of 106 with Brook Guest (45) who proved a perfect foil.Another collapse followed as Anuj Dal, Alex Thomson and Guest were sent packing in rapid succession by Curtley-Jack White, but some late blows by Nils Priestley in a cameo of 25 gave Derbyshire hope.Vasconcelos and Gay began steadily, the latter the more fluent, striking Dal back over his head for four as 50 came up in the ninth over.Derbyshire fielded tigerishly pulling several shots back from the ropes, but the openers continued to accumulate and keep their side well up with the rate. The hundred came up in the 16th over with Gay first to 50 from 41 balls with four fours, Vasconcelos (50) reaching his half-century soon afterwards with the help of six boundaries, before the Northamptonshire skipper skied one to deep mid-off off Thomson, ending the stand at 105.Ben Curran made only 12 and 27 were needed from the last three overs, but Keogh’s 33 from 16 balls including two huge sixes settled matters.

DPL 2021: Complaint filed against Sabbir Rahman for alleged racial abuse and stone throwing

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club has lodged a complaint against Legends of Rupganj player Sabbir Rahman for racially abusing and throwing stones at their player Elias Sunny. The alleged incident took place during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) T20 match between Dhanmondi and Old DOHS Sports Club at the BKSP 3 ground in Dhaka on Wednesday.Rahman, who had a match lined up against Partex Sporting Club starting later in the day at the BKSP 4 ground, allegedly abused Sunny, who was on the field, and threw stones at him shortly after arriving at the sporting complex.Play was stopped for a few minutes when Sunny, fielding at the time, informed the on-field umpires Habibur Rahman and Mozahiduzzaman about the incident. After the match, Dhanmondi wrote a letter to the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) – the BCB committee that oversees club cricket in Dhaka – requesting disciplinary action.”[Sabbir Rahman] used abusive and racially discriminate language against Sunny. As a professional cricketer, such behaviour is not only indecent but also a punishable offense,” the letter said. “In this case, you are specially requested to take disciplinary action against Sabbir Rahman.”Sunny said that Rahman’s behaviour was not an isolated one. He said it had started earlier in the week when Dhanmondi played Rupganj.”Sabbir started abusing me when I was batting against Rupganj on June 13,” Sunny told ESPNcricinfo. “I asked him thrice whether he himself understood what he was saying, but he kept repeating it. I got angry, after which the umpires had to separate us. But he kept calling me (referring to his skin colour) repeatedly from the outfield. We won the match so I didn’t react too much.”During today’s match, when we were fielding, Rupganj’s bus had arrived near the BKSP 3 ground. He started teasing me with the same . I didn’t react at first. But shortly afterwards, he threw a stone at me. I maintained the protocol by telling the umpires. Play was stopped for a while. I also spoke to the match referee.”Speaking to the , Rahman denied that he had used a racial slur, adding, “There is no question of throwing a stone. Is it easy to throw stones? Why would I do something like that? He is my senior.”The CCDM, which will hold a hearing on the incident, has to investigate the matter since Rahman was technically an outsider or bystander during the Dhanmondi-Old DOHS game. If the match officials of the Dhanmondi game also report Rahman, it would be used as evidence against him.Rahman has a long record of disciplinary breaches. He received a six-month ban for abusing a fan on social media (that was later reduced by one month) in 2018. It came a few months after his central contract was revoked after he physically assaulted a fan during a first-class match in late 2017. During the 2016 BPL, the BCB fined him 30% of his BPL contract for “serious off-field disciplinary breaches”.

Glasner must finally drop Hughes & unleash "combative" Crystal Palace star

Crystal Palace have started the season slowly, losing two and drawing one of their first three fixtures, leaving them 16th in the Premier League on just one point, after the first three weeks of the new campaign.

Palace have only managed to score two goals (2nd lowest in the league), have an 81% pass accuracy (6th worst in the league), and have conceded twice to counter-attacks (the joint highest in the league) so far this season.

Oliver Glasner’s men face Leicester at Selhurst Park on Saturday, in their bid to obtain their first three points, with victory over the Foxes, who sit 15th in the Premier League, also only on one point so far.

Hughes should be dropped

Will Hughes has started two of the three Premier League games so far for Palace this season, starting against Brentford (2-1 loss) and Chelsea (1-1 draw) alongside Adam Wharton in the middle of the park.

However, it was the substitution of Hughes coming off against Chelsea, that helped Palace get a foot in the game against the Blues, making a valid argument for the Englishman to be dropped in their next game, at Selhurst Park against Leicester City.

Hughes made 33 appearances for Palace in all competitions last season, providing one assist, and contributing to eight clean sheets in his 2,039 minutes played.

Cheick Doucoure back into the side

Cheick Doucoure has suffered from injuries recently, only managing 12 appearances for the Eagles last season, after suffering an Achilles tendon rupture, keeping him out for 186 days, and missing 34 matches.

Doucoure was labeled “combative” by Jacek Kulig, and that is exactly what the Palace midfield is missing, adding athleticism and dynamism in midfield next to the passing maestro, Wharton, to provide balance to the team.

As you can see from the metrics comparing Doucoure and Hughes, Doucoure offers a higher level of duel winning to the midfield, averaging 3.33 tackles per 90 compared to the 2.90 tackles per 90 of Hughes. He also makes 1.93 interceptions per 90, compared to the 1.02 of Hughes.

Not only does Doucoure improve the defensive steel in the middle of the park, but he is also more progressive on the ball, averaging 4.80 progressive passes per 90, compared to the 3.62 of Hughes, and averages 0.88 progressive carries per 90, compared to the 0.67 of Hughes.

By bringing the 24-year-old back into the midfield with Wharton, it would provide the perfect balance of composure, progression, and combativeness, allowing Palace to win the midfield battles, and in turn, win more games, fully unleashing the midfield pivot of Wharton and Doucoure.

Steven Davies, Craig Overton rally Somerset with century stand versus Gloucestershire

Dystopian science-fiction novels have never been shy of depicting an isolated and fearful society in which debilitated human beings become over-reliant on technology and are force-fed propaganda in a sad and meaningless existence. It’s more than a little unfair to describe county cricket’s digital revolution during the time of Covid like that but you get the picture.County cricket’s in-house streaming service has been quietly advancing for several years, and as lockdown is eased it remains indispensable for spectators still shut out of grounds until May 20 and, even then, only likely to be allowed back in reduced numbers. So while it would have been considerably nicer to be at Taunton to watch the first West Country derby in the Championship for 14 years, in the interests of science it was time to experience what everyone was going through.A quick vox pop on the Facebook group confirmed that most county followers have developed a real affinity for the coverage of their county, even if they fear the eventual introduction of paywalls and even if there will always be someone who thinks the game should be broadcast live on BBC 1 with a lengthy run-of-play report in the .But at a time when the Hundred is fast approaching, and is often justified by grave warnings that “the game is dying”, it will be an eye-opener to the naysayers to discover this dying game covered by multiple cameras, action replays and, in the majority of cases, commentary synched with BBC online coverage, although Middlesex and Gloucestershire now have their own commentary teams. It feels more like a Golden Age.”In time,” E.M. Forster warns of technological advancement in “there will come a generation that had got beyond facts.” That should be a warning to those commentators who display an obsequiousness towards their home county that journalistic integrity should be paramount.Nobody would ever accuse Somerset’s much-valued commentator, Anthony Gibson, of a tendency to inaccuracy, even if he does have a healthy regard for the talents of an entertaining Somerset side striving once again to win a first Championship title. A sprinkling of local pride is no bad thing. And pride was in abundance after Somerset lost the toss on a difficult batting morning, then lost half their side for 110, but fought back to be dismissed late in the day for 312.County cricket’s cultural shift – perhaps even cultural confusion – does have a peculiar aspect for such an erudite individual. This authentic West Country man, writer of several books celebrating the connection between authors and their landscape, now occasionally breaks off from commentary, as he must, to read the latest social media offering from Grumpy Git. He seemed to know who it was, too, which was quite a feat as in county cricket it could be pretty much anyone.Professional commentators rightly point out the distinctive styles of TV and radio cricket commentary which make county cricket’s hybrid streaming service a slightly uncomfortable compromise. Radio commentators paint a picture whereas TV commentators interpret it, in far fewer words yet here the two go side by side. That is all the more off-putting when commentators cannot see the TV screen and their conversation bears no relation to the pictures. While all that is true, it should not deflect from an offering fast approaching broadcast quality, and backed up by videos of every wicket and boundary. County cricket is used to compromises. As for the cricketers themselves, they might no longer face the level of independent, and critical, coverage that they did a generation ago, but their techniques have never been more on show. Tom Banton was a case in point – one of the most dangerous T20 players in the world was ill at ease in making 29 as Ryan Higgins and David Payne found swing and seam with the new ball, ample to justify a decision to bowl first. He played on, an indeterminate prod at Payne’s inswinger. Holding down the opening spot in the Championship will aid Banton’s all-round development, although it will demand reassessment if he is to succeed.Danger increased whenever Higgins and Payne had the ball, but there was also a promising seam-bowling debut from Dominic Goodman, a 20-year-old student at Exeter University, who looked a dependable sort, found a bit of bounce at times and deserved his reward when he swung the second new ball to have Josh Davey caught at slip. “A big lad who makes good use of his height,” said Higgins, and so he was. There are some county batting line-ups where watching on the TV would have made it tempting to channel hop after lunch, although BBC 2 had kindly scheduled something called 800 Words in the post-prandial slot which was a useful reminder for any journalists watching on TV where their priorities lay.Somerset, in any case, are highly entertaining, worthy of a close watch, and this time it was Steve Davies and Craig Overton who rallied them from 110 for 5 with a stand of 116 in 30 overs. Overton, promoted to No. 7, which will please England, remained naturally bullish, while Davies, happily feasting on anything short and wide, was as crisp and clean as a sanitised kitchen. Overton fell to a fine delivery from Higgins; Davies fell more disappointingly, hanging out his bat so markedly that he chopped on an outswinger from Payne.Related

Back in 2007, in the last West Country Championship derbies, Somerset won both matches handsomely, with Andy Caddick proving to be Gloucestershire’s nemesis on both occasions. This time, Somerset’s advantage is slighter, but if conditions remain the same they have the edge.Somerset have always been one of the forerunners of online streaming, their offering marshalled by the impressive Ben Warren, a master of chilled-out commitment. Their YouTube and Facebook sessions totalled combined figures of more than 80,000 on the first day with the average session time more than 15 minutes. As impressive as county cricket’s commitment to online streaming is, as vital a lifeline as it may prove to be, it cannot match the real thing. County clubs are communal or they are nothing. Forster’s message in was that the move to a globalised, technological-driven society must not be allowed to destroy our humanity and our connection with the natural world; that progress must be tempered with such community, with human relationships and a beating heart. For those who retain an affinity to England’s professional circuit, the need to protect the game’s soul need not be explained. Somerset supporters watching online will have missed, as many of us do, a coffee in the Stragglers, the renewal of acquaintances by the pavilion and the ear-shattering wisdom of Tractor Driver in front of the scoreboard. It is those who question the circuit’s continued existence who need to learn the lessons provided by a dystopian novel or two.

Nottingham Forest eye loan for "exceptional" £120k-p/w England international

Nottingham Forest are reportedly plotting an audacious loan move for a top-level international player this summer.

Forest in slow summer transfer window

Since securing promotion to the Premier League back in 2022, Nottingham Forest have had a phenomenally high squad turnover and are often among the busiest sides in the division.

In their first season back in the top flight, they signed 30 players, headlined by the arrival of Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi. They then followed that up by adding a further 17 new faces across the 2023/24 campaign, including the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Anthony Elanga and Murillo.

The Midlands club are closing in on another reinforcement.

ByTom Cunningham Jul 26, 2024

By comparison, this season Nuno Espírito Santo's side have been dawdling, with just five new faces being welcomed to the City Ground. They have signed Elliot Anderson in a £35m move from Newcastle United, while Nikola Milenkovic has arrived from Fiorentina to replace Moussa Niakhate, who joined Lyon.

There have also been moves for Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, as well as young pair Mark Stamenic and Eric Moreira from Red Star and St Pauli respectively. The club's biggest successes this summer to date have been their ability to keep hold of impressive defender Murillo as well as Gibbs-White, both of whom had been linked with moves away across the 2023-24 campaign.

Undoubtedly the two biggest stars at the City Ground, Forest are looking to build a quality side around them, and are reportedly plotting an audacious loan move to help Nuno do just that.

Nottingham Forest chase Arsenal man

That comes as The Sun report that the Reds are chasing an extraordinary move to sign out-of-favour Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. The England international, who was Jordan Pickford's deputy at EURO 2024, fell out of favour at the Emirates Stadium following the arrival of David Raya last summer. He made just six Premier League appearances and just two after being dropped in favour of Raya, both coming against Brentford when the Spaniard was ineligible.

He seemed certain to depart this summer in search of first-team football, but the Gunners have struggled to find anyone willing to meet their reported £30m price tag, with both Newcastle and Chelsea having been linked previously but having since agreed deals to sign other goalkeepers.

Now, The Sun claim that Forest are considering making an offer to take the former Arsenal no.1 on loan for the upcoming campaign, with Espirito Santo's side not willing to meet the asking price for a permanent deal.

They report that Forest are "willing to gamble" and see if the Gunners will let Ramsdale "leave on loan right at the end of the window", and believe that "paying all of Ramsdale’s wages plus a chunky bonus may give them a real chance" of pulling off the coup.

The goalkeeper penned a new deal at Arsenal in 2023, which means that he has just two years left to run on his £120,000-a-week deal at the Emirates Stadium, though the Gunners have an option to extend that deal by a further year.

Despite being second choice, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was quick to praise his backup shot stopper last season, dubbing his attitude "exceptional".

“He’s been exceptional around the place with the situation. Like everybody. We love him more for sure. We have him every day. We know him, we know his character and we are really happy to have him."

Ramsdale is undoubtedly a cut above the current options at Nuno's disposal, but the arrival of another two goalkeepers this summer would only muddy the waters further following the fight for the no.1 spot at the City Ground since their promotion.

Rodri has revealed that he came close to throwing in the towel as a teenager as he was not convinced it was worth all the sacrifices he had to make along the way.

The Manchester City midfielder won the prestigious Ballon d'Or award last month, but has acknowledged that it wasn't always easy for him to stay motivated when he was in the infancy of his playing career.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rodri joined the Atletico Madrid youth setup in 2007 at the age of 11 and continued his development there for six years. In 2013, when he was 17, he had to make the tough decision of leaving his family in Madrid to join the Villarreal youth academy. He didn't make his debut for the reserve side until February 2015, and had to wait another 10 months before making his professional debut with the first team.

  • WHAT RODRI SAID

Speaking in an interview on (h/t AS),Rodri said: “It stops being a hobby and becomes something professional. If you want to reach the top, you give everything without knowing if you are going to receive anything. I have not had a normal adolescence, I have missed many moments. Leaving my family to go to Villarreal was the most important decision of my life. That first year was complicated. Between 17 and 19 is when you have to make the leap. I called my father, heartbroken, and asked him what was the point of everything I had sacrificed to continue. He told me that in the year ahead, in the time I had left, I should give everything, forget about the consequences and that I only had to win, nothing to lose.”

Judge Yacoob steps down as CSA interim board chairman after verbally abusing journalist

Judge Zak Yacoob, the chairman of Cricket South Africa’s interim board, has stepped down following the publication of a telephone conversation between him and a South African journalist, in which Yacoob used language that was abusive. He is the fourth board chair to vacate the role, voluntarily or otherwise, since Chris Nenzani left office as CSA president last August, and has done so with less than a month to go before the board’s term is up.The recording, between journalist Tiisetso Malepa and Yacoob is of an interview in which Malepa asks Yacoob about allegations made by suspended acting CEO Kugandrie Govender that the judge had treated her unfairly and offered her money to seek legal counsel. Yacoob called Malepa “a dishonest, irresponsible idiot,” and said Malepa had “no right to ask me those questions.” The newspaper made the full recording available on their website at the weekend. On Tuesday, Yacoob “apologised unreservedly,” in a statement issued by the interim board but by Wednesday he stepped down “to protect the integrity of the board and in the best interests of cricket.”The country’s sports minister Nathi Mthethwa, who imposed the interim board on CSA last November following months of administrative upheaval, confirmed he had taken “time to engage with the judge to agree on the best way forward on the matter. By mutual agreement, it was felt that the judge should recuse himself from chairing the interim board.”Dr Stavros Nicolaou will chair the board for the remainder of their tenure – due to end in mid-February – by which time CSA should have convened an AGM and have a framework to elect a new, mostly independent board. “Whilst the minister still awaits a formal update on progress made by the Interim Board, he remains optimistic that the final report will contribute positively to the process of reforming South African cricket. He also hopes that the recommendations made will enable CSA to convene their delayed AGM, where a new Board will be elected,” a statement from Mthethwa’s office read. The judge’s departure comes on the eve of Govender’s disciplinary hearing, which is set to get underway on Thursday and further deepens the leadership crisis at CSA. The organisation currently has its third acting CEO in the last six months after Thabang Moroe was fired last year.Incidentally, among the charges that detailed Moroe’s misconduct was bringing CSA into disrepute for revoking the accreditation of five journalists during the 2019 Mzansi Super League (MSL), as well as excessive expenditure on alcohol and misinforming the board about the contracts CSA had entered into, in which service-providers did not fulfil their obligations despite being paid.CSA can embark on the process of appointing a new CEO after a permanent board is put in place.

Bundesliga club were plotting £50m swoop for Leeds ace before bombshell

Having failed to earn promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United are reportedly set to pay the price with European giants lining up to sign one of Daniel Farke's best players.

Leeds transfer news

A second consecutive season in the Championship was always going to act as a major blow at Elland Road, but the Yorkshire club have not been helped by their need to sell players this summer in order to comply with profit and sustainability rules in the Championship. This has already seen the Championship's Player of the Season Crysencio Summerville linked with a move away and others could soon follow.

Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville

The Dutchman enjoyed an outstanding campaign last time out and is undoubtedly Premier League-ready. With reported interest from Liverpool and Newcastle United, Summerville may yet have the opportunity to complete his top-flight return by using an alternative route to the Wembley option that Leeds failed to take hold of.

The winger's exit would be a major blow, but he's reportedly not the only one potentially heading for the Elland Road exit door this summer. According to Graeme Bailey for HITC, RB Leipzig want to sign Archie Gray in a deal that could eventually rise to £50m this summer, but are joined in their interest by Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and other European giants.

Farke could land Rutter partner in Leeds move for "ridiculous" star

The Whites are reportedly interested in signing the exciting winger this summer.

ByDan Emery Jun 29, 2024

Of course, the advantage that Leipzig have is that Red Bull have just bought a minority stake in Leeds, meaning that they could now use their links to deal their new acquisition an instant blow in quite the twist. Gray became the youngest player in Leeds' history to appear at Wembley in the play-off final in the latest achievement on his path seemingly destined for greatness.

This claim emerged before news broke of Brentford reportedly agreeing terms with Gray, with the Bees now firmly in the driving seat with regard to his immediate future. Of course, this is still a blow to Leeds, not least as they are only set to receive £35m as opposed to £50m, while should his move to west London fall through, there will be a number of clubs in the queue to grab a player clearly available for sale.

"Crucial" Gray is destined for the top

At just 18 years old, Gray slotted into Farke's side out of position at right-back and barely missed a beat. a midfielder by trade, the Leeds academy graduate has more than earned the interest of Leipzig, Bayern and other top European sides this summer and Leeds could be left with no choice but to sanction a deal to comply with PSR rules.

In an ideal world, they'll keep hold of their star prospect, but if he does move on to such clubs, there may well be a sense of pride hidden somewhere beneath initial disappointment that one of their very own is onto great things.

Farke, of course, would be among those sharing that mixed feeling, having praised Gray in abundance last season. He told Leeds Live: "For Archie, it's definitely not a bad choice at times. We don't play him there just to develop him, it's more we've got the feeling for this game, we need a player there who is capable to handle the pace and the speed and the mobility of the opponent's wingers.

"Also to play a bit more like an inverted full-back, a bit more like a traditional midfield player, Archie would have been the right choice. Thank God he repaid my trust and played some really good games there. He was fantastic in the last home game, solid last away game and he was crucial, especially in the second half."
