Leeds United hero Stuart Dallas is expected to be offered a new contract at the club, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

The Whites enjoyed one of their greatest Premier League wins on Saturday, securing a dramatic 2-1 victory away to Manchester City. Leeds managed to win at the league leaders despite having Liam Cooper sent off before half-time in what was a sensational team performance.

It was Dallas who was the hero for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, scoring both goals including the last-gasp winner on the counterattack.

Speaking in a Q&A for The Athletic after the game, with quotes provided by MOT Leeds News, Hay responded positively to a question about when Dallas will extend his stay at Elland Road:

Dallas is such an integral part of this Leeds side, with his versatility, work rate and team ethic making him priceless for Bielsa.

Surprisingly, the Northern Irishman currently earns just £8,000 per week, which doesn’t feel like much given his influence at Elland Road and is among the lower end of the squad’s pay scale.

Saturday’s performance shows that he warrants improved terms and it looks as though his wish will be granted, even though his current deal runs until 2023.

David Moyes should have no regrets over West Ham United selling Josh Cullen amid claims the midfielder is now worth three-times what RSC Anderlecht paid only last year.

What’s the word?

According to Sport/Foot Magazine, via Sport Witness, Cullen’s sensational start to life in Belgium has seen his market value skyrocket in the five months since his West Ham exit.

The Hammers allowed the 24-year-old to move to Lotto Park on Deadline Day in October for around £500,000, as he’d failed to earn a place in Moyes’ plans.

Cullen was on the books at the London Stadium for 15 years before joining Vincent Kompany’s Pro League outfit, yet only ever made 10 first-team appearances of which just one came during his final three seasons with the club.

Kompany has been vastly more forthcoming with senior minutes for the Republic of Ireland international, with Cullen starting 18 of his 21 outings in all competitions to date, but he is yet to register a single goal or assist.

Though Kompany has been awash with praise for the Hammers product, having helped the Mauves et Blancs to sit fourth in the Pro League standings and contend for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

“He is never called the Man of the Match, but he is the most popular in the squad,” Kompany told DH Les Sports+ last month. “Those who admire him the most for his work are his teammates. He has only one thing in mind: the team. His own person comes after, in the background. If the team wins, it’s because he did a lot of jobs that the others couldn’t do.

“An anecdote: against Genk, he hit his head and they put a bandage on him. As I know he is of Irish descent and tough as iron, I slapped him on his bandage and said with a laugh: ‘Are you okay? Come on, run then, and stop making excuses.’ The same against Charleroi: he took a big tackle on the ankle, but I knew he would continue, even if his leg was cut in half.”

Should West Ham regret selling Cullen?

Kompany clearly thinks highly of Cullen and so do Anderlecht, with the Belgian club said to value him at three-times what they paid West Ham only five months ago.

But Moyes should not have any regrets over Cullen’s departure, as there were no guarantees his move to Belgium would be a success with him having failed to make the grade at the London Stadium between several loan spells away.

Moyes would have received plenty of reports of his progress while with Charlton Athletic for the past two seasons, but the Westcliff-on-Sea-born talent clearly did not impress the Irons enough over his 66 games with the Addicks.

The Hammers boss was not the only one to pass up on his potential, either, as Moyes handed Cullen six of his 10 West Ham appearances, while Manuel Pellegrini never opted to give the four-cap international a single chance.

Cullen took a punt on himself by moving to Belgium last year over the safety of another spell in the Championship, and it is clearly paying off for him. In the long-run, it could pay off for West Ham a bit more, too, having included a sell-on clause in their deal with Anderlecht.

But, right now, West Ham should have no regret over calling time on their investment in a talent failing to breakthrough, and enjoy what success Moyes is delivering on the pitch.

Many England fans were left slamming the display of Raheem Sterling despite their 5-0 home win over San Marino in World Cup qualifying on Thursday night.

Two goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin as well as further strikes from James Ward-Prowse, Ollie Watkins and Sterling himself gave Gareth Southgate’s men all three points on the night, but several Three Lions supporters were left frustrated at Sterling’s overall performance.

Even though he did eventually score, albeit by a deflection that helped him out, the 26-year-old was guilty of missing a number of glorious opportunities, as he recorded no fewer than six shots off target in total, three times as many as any other player to have set foot on the pitch (Sofascore).

He also lost out on four of his duels, the second-most lost out of his teammates, and failed to put in a single cross or long ball, all while losing possession on five different occasions (Sofascore).

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Mabbutt believes that the club can win two trophies this season and qualify for the Champions League in the process.

Spurs had endured a major dip in form in recent weeks, slipping to ninth in the Premier League table, before a recent resurgence against the likes of Burnley, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Of course, a top-four finish may not be required to seal European football, with victory in the Europa League a realistic route into the Champions League.

Spurs will play Dinamo Zagreb in the last-16, a tie that is surely seen as winnable, while they have also reached the League Cup final, where they will play Manchester City, who were beaten 2-0 at Spurs back in November.

Mabbutt, speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, believes the glass is firmly half full, and thinks that Tottenham could end a difficult season remarkably successfully, especially given that Jose Mourinho ended his first season at Manchester United with the League Cup and the Europa League in the bag.

He said: “Well, yeah, I mean, that’d be fantastic. Jose did it, I think, probably against the odds at times at Manchester United.

“Yeah, we’ve shown in the League Cup and our Europa League performances that we are certainly a team who nobody wants to play in those competitions. Against Manchester City at home, I think we dominated the game as far as tactically, and obviously scoring the two goals won us the game.

“It’s all to fight for as far as I’m concerned, I think we’re a great group of players. Getting those players in the right frame of mind, and man-management, that’s down to the manager. And what I’m seeing over the last few games, it is starting to fall into place.”

Spurs host Zagreb in the capital on Thurday before facing arch-rivals Arsenal at the Emirates in the latest north London derby on Sunday.

Marcel Brands could seal Carlo Ancelotti his new Nemanja Matic after Everton were one of several sides to be linked with Sogndal captain Sivert Mannsverk.

What’s the word?

According to Calciomercato.it, the Toffees are one of a group of clubs currently tracking Mannsverk’s situation but face a race against time to finalise a deal, with Inter Milan ready to do whatever it takes to sign the 18-year-old wonderkid.

Mannsverk is considered to be surprisingly affordable for a midfielder who is expected to become one of Europe’s best prospects in the next few years, having already proven to be a complete player with great technique and the typical physique of a Nordic talent.

The Sogndal product’s efforts in the Norwegian second-tier have also alerted Bologna and SS Lazio to pay attention in Italy, while Everton and Aston Villa have begun efforts to lure the Under 19 international to the Premier League.

Groningen and AFC Ajax are also understood to have approached Sogndal with official offers for the youngster, who is further tracked by Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion, per La Lazio Siamo Noi.

Lazio have held several meetings with Mannsverk’s agent to discuss a move for the central midfielder, valued at €2m (£1.8m), who has been compared with Sheffield United’s then-club record £22m signing Sander Berge.

Mannsverk has addressed the speculation surrounding his future, stating that he has two years remaining on his current contract and wishes to repay Sogndal for the opportunities the Fosshaugane Campus natives have given him.

“I want to give back what Sogndal has given me. I do not have anything I should say yet when clubs do not agree. It is the club that decides this here, and then I think I have a contract until 2022,” he told Nettavisen. “If clubs agree, you always take it from there. This is how it is with all players.”

Ancelotti’s new Matic

Brands launching a formal pursuit in hopes of seeing Everton edge out the vast interest in Mannsverk could see the Blues’ Director of Football acquire a true emerging gem of European football, and one who could prove to be Ancelotti’s new Matic at Goodison Park.

Mannsverk made 33 outings across all competitions as the Sogndal captain in 2020, in which he contributed five goals and five assists, with all of his appearances coming as the central or deep-lying playmaker in manager Eirik Bakke’s side.

He also had a direct influence in the opening goal in two fixtures, which without would have seen Sogndal fail to avoid defeat in a side which featured the lowest average age of any OBOS-Ligaen club at 20-years and two-months.

His emerging status and style of play could be ideal for the system Ancelotti is striving to establish at Everton, and has the Merseyside outfit in contention for qualification into the Champions League.

Mannsverk would also inspire comparisons with Manchester United’s Matic if signed, as Ancelotti awarded the midfielder his Chelsea debut at 21 after being plucked from obscurity at Slovakian side FC VSS Kosice.

Matic went on to become a beast in the Premier League and one considered to be the English top-flight’s best defensive midfielder while at Stamford Bridge. He also received shouts of being deserving of inclusion in the running for the division’s Player of the Year award in 2015.

AND in other news, Everton are demanding no less than £9m to sell a Carlo Ancelotti outcast this month.

Que avaliação que pode ser feita do início da relação entre Botafogo e Maracanã S.A?

Dentro das circunstâncias de perda momentânea do Engenhão, entendemos que fizemos um contrato interessante (de 35 anos). Temos uma parte do estádio e custos associados a estes 43 mil lugares. Não obstante termos este contrato, Botafogo e Maracanã já iniciam uma discussão para ver se conseguem ajustar o acordo. Os ajustes seriam em relação à melhoria do conceito, queremos tornar firme a relação dos torcedores com o estádio. Hoje, o torcedor sabe que um pedaço é de um, enquanto um é de outro. Entendemos que não é positivo, precisamos alinhar interesses. Estamos discutindo uma reformulação, começaremos as conversas a partir de semana que vem.

Este novo alinhamento passaria por quais pontos?

Temos um contrato que entendemos ser muito bom. Por outro lado, entendemos que a identidade do torcedor com o estádio tem de crescer. A maneira de crescer é acabar com as áreas cativas do clube e da concessionária. Propusemos dar início a uma discussão de como reestruturar o contrato.

Flamengo sinalizou que os clubes deveriam ser mais efetivos na gestão. Como o Botafogo vê a questão?

Acho que a observação do Flamengo faz sentido, principalmente quando diz respeito às operações que são de responsabilidade dos clubes, como venda de ingressos e controle de acesso. Descobri neste domingo que a venda na internet foi suspensa às 11 horas, o que não pode acontecer. Se o Botafogo tiver gerência neste processo, não vamos permitir que aconteça. Quando esta operação se distancia do clube, prejudica o clube e o espetáculo. Queremos dizer que o Botafogo entende que a aproximação cada vez maior com o Maracanã S.A só tende a melhorar, seja no aspecto comercial ou no operacional.

O Botafogo entende que a concessão do estádio é um bom caminho ou o ideal seria que o Maracanã voltasse para o governo?

Sobre os clubes, acho que se o concessionário se abrir mais e escutar mais, para que a gente discuta melhor a operação, isso melhora e resolve a questão. Se o modelo for voltar para as mãos do governo, é um julgamento mais do estado, pois eles teriam de assumir custos. Insisto que a aproximação da operação da concessionária com os clubes é saudável.

Vocês têm encontrado barreiras para ampliar o diálogo?

O relacionamento com a concessionária tem sido positivo, mas entendemos que às vezes a concessionária se fecha que nem ostra, não conseguimos discutir certos detalhes. Mas os contatos são amigáveis, o Borba (João, presidente do Maracanã S.A) tem sido uma pessoa muito carinhosa.

Quais os pontos mais importantes na discussão do contrato?

O modelo tem de estar melhor para as duas partes. Temos de tentar entender como a gente transforma este modelo que cria um apartheid no estádio. Achamos que o clube tem de participar um pouquinho mais das outras modelagens de receitas. Eles ganharam uma licitação, mas o conteúdo do estádio é a torcida. E temos de melhorar muito a questão operacional, o nosso cliente está reclamando por melhorias.

Marcel Brands has landed a huge break in his bid to finally rid Everton of Yannick Bolasie with Middlesbrough reportedly reigniting their drive to sign the unwanted winger.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, Neil Warnock’s Boro are putting plans in place to bring Bolasie to the Riverside Stadium in January having failed to get a deal over the line this summer.

Everton were believed to have agreed on terms with the Championship side ahead of the window slamming shut, but saw the move collapse on Deadline Day as the paperwork needed to register the DR Congo international was not processed in time.

Warnock is a big admirer of Bolasie’s talents following their time together at Crystal Palace and has stated previously a determination to reunite with the forward in January, feeling the 31-year-old is the type of player who can make a difference in their push for promotion.

Boro sit six-points outside the Play-Off positions after the opening 17 games of the campaign thanks to one of the second-tier’s most evenly-balanced records, featuring six wins, six draws and five defeats, but a tame offence with just 16 goals scored thus far.

Bolasie has not featured in any competition this season after Carlo Ancelotti informed Everton’s £25million signing that he was surplus to requirements at Goodison Park upon returning from a season-long loan with Liga NOS powerhouse Sporting CP.

Millions on millions wasted

Middlesbrough reigniting their efforts to end Bolasie’s Goodison Park nightmare is a huge break for Everton’s Director of Football Brands, who has shouldered the burden of removing Steve Walsh’s disastrous signing since arriving on Merseyside in 2018.

Bolasie has been completely frozen out at Everton since the appointment of Ancelotti, but his horrors date back further with a serious knee injury in December 2016 – just months after his arrival – the start of what has proven to be a long road to nowhere.

The blow brought short a campaign of little promise with four assists and one goal in 13 Premier League appearances, and forced Bolasie to miss more than a year out before offering one goal and no assists in 16 games under Sam Allardyce upon his return.

Bolasie’s seven-minute run out in Everton’s 3-1 loss to West Ham United on the final day of the 2017/18 season remains his last for the club and with his £75,000-per-week contract due to expire next summer, Brands must do all he can to ensure the Lyon-born forward’s record scratches to its final halt this winter.

Everton have already wasted millions on millions through Ronald Koeman’s decision to sign Bolasie and Walsh’s call to pay £25m, as his total salary to date has pushed the Blues’ outlay to £41.87m and will only continue to climb until he says his last goodbyes.

O Ypiranga inicia a temporada motivado pelos desafios que terá pela frente. Time de melhor campanha na primeira fase do Gauchão-2015, o Ypiranga se garantiu na Série D e conquistou o acesso à Série C deste ano.
